National Capital Authority
A Statutory Agency of the Australian Government, established under the Australian Capital Territory (Planning and Land Management) Act 1988 (Cth). The National Capital Authority manages 1,095 hectares of land in the ACT. The functions of the National Capital Authority, as set out under section 6 of the Australian Capital Territory (Planning and Land Management) Act 1988 (Cth), require the Authority to prepare and administer the National Capital Plan. Any buildings or structures, demolition, landscaping or excavation works in these Designated Areas require the prior written approval of the National Capital Authority.
Territory Plan
The Territory Plan is the key statutory planning document in the ACT, providing the policy framework for the administration of planning in the ACT. The purpose of the Territory Plan is to manage land use change and development in a manner consistent with strategic directions set by the ACT Government and the community. The Territory Plan must be consistent with the National Capital Plan. The Territory Plan includes broad principles and policies that guide development, through land use specific objectives and policies.
